The Master Cleanse Diet
If it is your first time to hear the term, master cleanse is a detox diet that was designed to eliminate toxins from the digestive system. Also called as the lemonade diet, it is used by people to promote energy and to increase weight loss as well. The key to the master cleanse is the lemonade, which acts as a laxative and salt water flush.
The concoction is made by mixing about thirty ml or two tablespoons of maple syrup, a pinch of cayenne pepper and the juice of half a lemon or lime in 237 to 473 ml of water, which is around a cup or two. Those who are using this particular diet should drink the lemonade all through the day and follow a multi stage and strict program. It is also advised that only organic lemons be used.
Master cleanse roadmap
The first stage in a lemonade diet goes for a period of three days and has been designed to get the body used to a diet that is liquid based. On the first day of the diet, you should only eat fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating meat, dairy products or any kind of grains. On the next day, you will be required to take the juice of your fruits and vegetables and drink it. On the following day, which is the third day, you will only be allowed to take orange juice mixed with maple syrup.
After successfully going through the first stage of the master cleanse diet, you will now come to the second stage, which is considered as the main composition of the diet. The duration is ten to fourteen days and you have to follow an authoritarian schedule. In this stage, you are going to make the lemonade each morning. Every time you feel hungry or tired, you are supposed to take a glass of the mixture. All in all, you should take from six to 26 glasses of the lemonade every day. The only other drink you are allowed is water, which can be taken in between the lemonades.
People who are going under the master cleanse diet are told to have a complete salt water flush or laxative along with the lemonade every morning. Another laxative should be taken in the evening. In making the salt water flush, mix 10 ml of sea salt, which is around a couple of teaspoons, in 4.2 cups or one liter of water. This should all be taken. The mixture of salt and water is supposed to get all waste out of your body. Take note that people who are taking salt water flush can expect to have up to fifteen bowel movements in a single session.
Once you have gone through the strict regimen of the second stage, you will now complete the third stage, which is also lasts for three days. Basically, it is the same as the first stage except that it is done in reverse. Thus, you should take your orange juice on the first day, the juice of fruits and vegetables on the second day and solid fruits and vegetables on the third day.

Factors that can affect your success
There are three major factors that may affect the way master cleanse diet will work for you.
- First is the fact that each body is unique. Your DNA is different from other people and your body is as unique. Your metabolic rate and what you eat can affect how your body will react to the lemonade diet. Some people for instance do not have diarrhea or even any bowel movements for several days although they are supposed to have several bowel movements in a day. Different people experience different symptoms as well. But while these are all normal reaction of the body to the master cleanse diet, it is essential that you keep them under control.
- You do not have enough accurate information or you have misinterpreted the diet instructions. Many dieters do the lemonade diet after reading the instructions from the internet. Take note that while it is possible to get accurate information online, not everything that you read is true. Some information about the lemonade diet is true while other is entirely wrong! You should then learn how to distinguish the accurate from the wrong information since incorrect master cleanse dieting could have serious consequences on your health. It may also be possible to misinterpret the diet instructions even though you have a master cleanse book. Mixing the ingredients in wrong proportions is another common mistake.
- Some people do not follow the instructions specified in the diet plan for some reasons. There are people for example who do not like cayenne pepper and therefore do not include it among the ingredients. Others may skip doing the saltwater flush or taking the laxatives.
All in all, make sure that you follow the proper directions to the T when going on a master cleanse diet.
